Off to Europe

Thursday, May 14, 2009

Well fellow readers I will be out for 3 weeks as I am off to another world. London-Paris-Luxembourg-Rome-Sienna-Florence-Bologna, that's the plan anyways. I am shooting an event in London and then we're off to Italy as my husband has a "futbol" gig over there with Ambassador's in Sport. Paris and Tuscany are just to squeeze in there because, well, I love France and I've been dying for a cream puff and some second-hand Luis Vuitton. I'm sure I'll have lots of photos when I return. So, see you in three weeks... unless of course I become an international blogger in some internet cafe. I'm leaving my dear laptop behind- I haven't been this far from her in a year. :)

Alice in Wonderland: Kira's Bride-to-be shoot

Wednesday, May 13, 2009

I had to squeeze one more photo shoot in this week before I'm off to Europe. This little lady is Kira. Her Bride-to-be photo shoot turned out to be magical. She has such an innocence and poise about her that made this shoot so sensitive and beautiful. Her pink umbrella is adorable. She is like an Irish Storybook Princess. Lovely! It was hard to choose a favorite. You can see more of her enchanted shoot on my gallery page.

These two are my favorite... She looks like Alice in Wonderland.

Southern Wedding Magazine

Guess what everyone! My wedding made it to Southern Wedding Magazine Blog! Check it out!

Bellville Fashion Shoot

"Fashion show at lunch, fashion show at lunch." - Kelly from The Office. (season 3) That's what I kept imagining while posting these photos. I've been keeping up with Top Model this season, (which believe it or not is extremely helpful to watch for a photographer, to learn how to position and move.) Although they knocked my favorite girl Pho off. Anyway, here's some more fashion! This was a shoot for Bellville Clothing Company. The style of their spring line is kind of urban-asian-island style? That's what I think! The make-up was my favorite part of this shoot. I love the bright colors. Celebrity makeup artist, Nikki Zalanka, accomplished the look of these models. Other than painting Lil' Kim's face, she is also on staff for Vain Magazine.

Some of these girls are particularly fantastic to me; they seem strong and tough but so soft too. I like that dichotomy. I walked away from this shoot with, "the cabana dress"- which is not pictured here, but I have already worn it and love it!

Very serious before the runway.

Feature on Indie NC

Thursday, May 7, 2009

I was recently featured on a blog called Indie NC as a "through the lens" artist. (Which is a really cool site about Indie things happening in NC). They featured some photos of some pictures I took on a trip to New Zealand. This one is called "Town of the Hobbits".

Here's another I found when I was deleting files in my system. These are Mauri Warriors, they were really coming at me in this photo. This was taken a long time ago with my first real Digital SLR camera.
I love the Mauri people. This was probably one of the most moving ceremonies I have ever been a part of. When a "new" tribe is wanting to be-friend another tribe they come with a song and a leaf to represent coming in peace. Then the tribe (pictured here) comes at you to scare you with these incredible warrior dance moves to make sure you are serious about joining. Then if they receive your offering of peace a woman sings out beckoning you to come in, and then every member stands in a line and leans their forehead one another and takes a long inhale together. This is to "share one breath" together as God is a breath... inhaling the presence of God. Then you share a meal, which is typically a pit roasted pig- island style. - This was one of the highlights of my life.

Speaking of Travel pictures. I also entered a contest with Budget Travel Magazine. Want to see some pics from my honeymoon last year (and a half)? I'll let you know if I win.

Apron Question.

Sometimes... I want to buy aprons and wear them over my clothes all the time... Can I do this? And look, if I had a daughter she could wear an apron too! Oh Anthropologie, you are perfect.

Kate -Part One, the elegant side

Introducing... the fabulous Kate. Kate is stunning. I can't get enough of her short little old-timey veil... which she purchased off of Etsy. There is so much to love about Kate. Her personality is bigger than life, you kinda just want to be her best friend when you meet her! She is adorable, knows how to take a pretty picture and she is a designer for IKEA... She won me at Ikea. :) I loved taking these photos. We did so many looks that day, this will have to be part one because there are so many more to see of this lady. I love the elegance of these pictures of her, but she's got some sassy ones too... those will come later. Can't wait to shoot this wedding in a month!

Catching up on Spring

Wednesday, May 6, 2009

I told you I was catching up. So this spring I have been a little busy doing Springie type things along with the thousands of other things we've been up to. One thing I have been doing is working in the garden. On our trip to Asheville last year, which I blogged about, we tasted the most amazing heirloom tomatoes I have ever had. So, this year I ordered special heirloom seeds and started them from their little pod bodies. I hope to have dreams of tomatoes this summer!

Sometimes when my husband is a good boy, he does the right thing: bring me flowers. And I have to say, I forgot that I love tulips. After he came home with these in hand I feel in love with tulips (and him) again! And these vases, (that were on sale at Target long ago) are my favorite for flowers. toodaa.
