Kinfolk Dinner at The Metropolitan West Elm

Friday, December 6, 2013

Venue & Props: Metropolitan West Elm // Food & Photography: Anna Naphtali Food: Goldmine, Vivace, Dean & Deluca // Coffee: Not Just Coffee // Paper Design: Lauren Calnin // Video: Caravan Cinema Co. // Flowers: Philosphy Flowers // Event Assistance: Ariana Clare & Goldmine // Linens: Hey Love Events // Music: Jude Moses

This might have been the best dinner party I've ever thrown ;). I cannot thank our vendors, sponsors, guests and friends enough. Katie & the West Elm crew were so helpful. The chefs from Vivace made them most incredible food, I still can't get over it, if you are in town you have to get a martini with their house-made cello and anything off their menu is worth it. Thank you James from Not Just Coffee for bringing your fans and pouring us something special all night. Jude Moses, was a great surprise, and as soon as their album hits I'm going to wear it out. Goldmine always brings the good vibes and amazing food, and I have to say thanks to Kyle Young for helping with the wine selection, I'm still enjoying your choices. And then to finish off the evening everyone went home with a hand-wrapped bouquet from Kelly of Philosophy Flowers along with a cute owl West Elm mug & Goldmine rosmary sea salt.

Thank you to everyone who came and participated, what a beautiful night.

Anna Naphtali for Madewell: Look One: Motorcycle Days

Sometimes I want to feel like I can just hop on a motorcycle and ride away... If I were, this is what I'd wear.

Anna Naphtali for Madewell 'Photography Style'

Friday, November 29, 2013

On December 14th, I'll be doing a styling event with Madewell from 4-7 at the South Park location. There will be Prosecco cocktails, bloggers, stylists, give-aways and an Instagram challenge that could win you some Madewell favorites. I'll post more details soon. Be sure to come say hello!

Until the event, I'll be doing some style posts for Madewell in the following weeks, putting together looks that I like or that I actually wear for different functions.

Today's ensemble is my "photographer style" outfit for shooting editorials in the field. This is actually what I wear almost every time I'm shooting assignment work.

Who knew my favorite shirt this year is called "the ex-boyfriend flannel?" Moving along.

I have been a fan of wearing boots since the first time Doc Martens were in style back in choker-wearing high-school days. But these days I wear them for practical reasons. You never know what you are going to have to walk through when you're shooting outside. At my last shoot I had to climb on the side of a large iron sculpture to get the best angle at a wedding. I like to feel like I'm always ready for an adventure even when I'm working... and wearing boots make me feel like I'm ready for whatever comes my way.

I also like to have everything I need strapped on my body especially when I work. In this photo I am wearing my Mark iii and holding a Mamiya 645... all the extra bits, batteries & business cards are in my pack attached to my belt. I've had this painter's belt for ten years and have worn it that long too, but you could get the same close look with the sketchbook bag worn crossed-over the shoulder.

Stay tuned for more Madewell looks and fashion talk.

Style Finds: Blue & Black

Thursday, November 21, 2013

I love weird color combinations. Especially ones like black and blue or black and brown. Mixing it up is always nice. I'm trying to get away from all black these days! -Ariana

Kinfolk Campfire Cooking

Tuesday, November 19, 2013

event host, food & photography: Anna Naphtali // partners, food & prep: Goldmine // venue: Camp Canaan // campfire music: Bad Dogs ;)

It seems wrong after snow flurries to post such a summery event... but since late August I've been behind on the world, but it's time to get back to business. This event was so much fun! and a lot of hard work for the prep team There's something so refreshing about getting in nature, by water, and cooking your own meal. It was so creative and exciting. We set up a long table with baskets of produce, herbs, fruit, cheese and meat fresh from the farmer's market. I suggested some combinations and recipes but everyone got to experiment with their own flavor profiles and whimsical ideas to throw in the fire.

All of these items were put into foil and baked until you peek inside and see it's ready.

Our menu:
beef stew with beer, fresh herbs & vegetables (and salt & pepper)
fire roasted corn with freshly grated parmesan cheese, Sriracha and lime
roasted peaches with brown sugar, brie cheese and thyme
"stick bread" bread dough wrapped on a stick, cooked over the fire dipped in butter and fresh parmesan cheese
homemade honey marshmallow s'mores with bacon, dark chocolate and old fashioned graham crackers

Goldmine made homemade marshmallows with honey and I promise it was the best marshmallow I have ever eaten.
