Have you ever noticed a trend in your image pinning? I was going through my fashion images and was like... oh my gosh... I must really have a thing for green pants and skirts? My favorite pair of pants this winter was a nice stretchy green pair I got on Christmas eve from Anthropologie. Who knew green was on my mind this much? :)
This is from the shoot I did recently with Yahoo! I was going to call this post 'The Jersey Shore of the South" (as that was the reputation growing up) but I met some of the locals during an interview and walked the empty beaches and ferris wheel and thought this place isn't so bad after all.

Molasses Pork: A cut of pork, molasses, ketchup, seasonings, salt & pepper, a splash of apple cider vinegar, hot sauce... in a crock pot for 5 hours on low... or all day BUT beware it can burn if there's not enough liquid because of the sugar content of the molasses... add some chicken stock in the beginning to prevent this...
Greens: cooked greens in a pot with olive oil, a little onion, splash of apple cider vinegar, salt & pepper in chicken stock... until just right. not too long- you don't want mushy greens!
This meal is so good, sometimes we have cheddar grits or polenta with it.
Enjoy!
Recently, my little family went to the beach for Easter, as we always do to visit Josh's family. My husband, the handsomeness seen above, did a little special trip for us for two days.
We dropped Izzybeans at his mom's and drove to Hilton Head for a day and half of sun, walks, mixed tropical drinks and overpriced seafood ;). We had talked about getting away, but he went ahead and made it happen. Then the next day we drove down to Savannah to eat at Paula Dean's restaurant, Lady & Sons. This was really special to me because I am always watching cooking shows, and have such an appreciation with the South. Southern food means a lot to me, not to be weird, but it represents a lot of what I consider hospitality & home. And it made me so excited it was his idea to take me down there.
If you can't tell... I'm bragging about my man for a minute. something I don't do often.
But my favorite part of the whole trip was a surprise Mister H had for me Easter morning. Now I will kindly preface that in the past some of my gifts have been athletic socks and books. But I woke up to a brown box with the dress seen above, my husband picked out, had shipped over from my favorite store, Zara. He picked it out, sized it & everything without my knowing. This was probably my favorite surprise gift ever. I felt like he finally knew my language. And I love him for it. When I was whining about not having anything to wear for Easter... he had a plan. How special it was to have a new outfit and go off on an adventure.
In my opinion, it's important for someone to feel beautiful sometimes... and that's what this little dress did for me.
Cheers to our little island adventure, and cheers to getting better at loving.
My friend Blake (seen in red) introduced me to Australian shop owner, Evie of Tattatatscat. He and his brother had these "Wunzy's" made this Christmas... and since bathing suit season is approaching I thought the gentlemen might want an alternative to the average board short. ;)
Take it away Blake,
The Wunzy's are modeled after 1920's men's swimsuits. You email your measurements into Evie and she custom makes each one! She really hustled on this order because I was trying to get them in before my brother left town. She actually made them and shipped them from AUS to the states in time for them to arrive for Christmas Eve! (About one week's time or less). I paid a pretty good penny for shipping to get them here that quick, it was just nice that she honored that.
This photo was taken a on a Canon 5D Mark II. I set up the camera on a tripod and framed it best I could without anybody in the frame, then brought my mom and brother out in the cold and relied on mom to man the autofocus button and advance the shutter. Then I edited them with RAW in Photoshop. It was a good team effort! By the way, my brother's name is Jordan and he lives in San Francisco.
Thanks Jordan & Blake for this fun project... so there you go, a new swim apparel alternative just in time for summer. Give Evie a buzz if you want "Wun" for yourself. ;)
