Charis Bride Part 2: A European Rooftop.

Saturday, September 26, 2009

As promised, Part 2 of the lovely bride Charis...

Sometimes when you do photo-shoots in the same city, you get a little bored of your usual locations. This might seem silly but I recently watched the documentary, "The September Issue" and the art director from Vogue Magazine said she was told to never close her eyes when riding in a car because you might miss something... and this is so true!

I have been driving by this location for years, always wanting to do a photo-shoot here and... voila! today you see the results... and I couldn't be more pleased. I adore these photos, and I adore little Charis.

We pretended we flew to Italy for this session, you can too... enjoy!

This is one of my favorites.

And just wait until you see their wedding...

A Bride with Style: Charis Part 1

Monday, September 14, 2009

I have been so excited to post this portrait series, it has been hard to wait. Today you will meet the lovely Charis. Charis is a stylist and recent grad from the Aveda Institute.... which could explain why she has such good hair (and style).

There are SO many AMAZING shots and looks from this day I'll just have to show you in sections!

The ones today are the more "artistic city shots", Part 2 will be more European Villa meets Fashionista... I can't believe I just used that word.

Blue Door Blue Eyes

Her purple shoes make these photos so adorable...

Love these.

Charis wanted some balloon pictures so bad, with our millions of props that's the one things we didn't have for the shoot... AND THEN in this back alley we found this picture of a balloon spray-painted on the wall. So I told her to fake hold a string and then I obviously photoshopped one in there... I like it better than the real thing!

I feel like we flew to the Greek Isles to get these shots... I'm loving these secret locations...

I promise you, you will LOVE part 2 even more! Stay tuned...

A Southern Domestic Day: blueberries and tomato pie.

Sunday, September 13, 2009

Ok so first, to let you know, I have the most incredible bridal portrait photo series to show you... and it will be up first thing next week.

Second, we finally have whole blueberries! Our tomatoes and blueberries are just now ready to be picked.

Third, I made a tomato pie, inspired by Callie Acuff.

Unless you grew up in the South, you probably didn't hear of tomato pie. The first time I had it was with my husband's Charlestonian family. (It's his Grandmother, "pokie's", favorite) A friend of mine, Callie, mentioned recently she made a tomato pie for dinner and posted a simple recipe on facebook. Well I couldn't get it out of my head and we were visiting, "pokie" the next day. SO... here's how it goes! (Callie's quick recipe)

I sliced one large beautiful tomato and put it in an unbaked pie shell. I also sliced some baby heirlooms (since I seem to be obsessed with that word) to mix a little different flavor.

Then slice some fresh basil and onion and throw it on the top with some salt and pepper, like a good Southern girl would.

I added Spinach just to try and it worked out real nice... but don't think for a minute that if I weren't eating meat right now I wouldn't have stuck some bacon on there. ;) I feel like I'm writing real country just because of this pie.

Then mix shredded sharp cheddar cheese and mayo in a bowl, sprinkle some dry basil and pepper and plop it on the top. Preheat Oven to 350 (do that first) and then bake about 30 minutes or so.
Frankly, my shredded cheese picture is a little yuck looking so I will leave you with the leafy green photo as the last in your mind.

Enjoy!

New Store: Heirloom!

Thursday, September 10, 2009

Hello everyone...
You might be wondering why I've been a little slow with the blog the last week...

I've been working on another online project and now I'm ready to share it with you! It's the launch of one of my new businesses!

It's called Heirloom. You can check out my online shop on Etsy.

I have always loved the idea of an heirloom. I can remember playing in my great grandmother's jewelry box and being enamored by the sparkles of her special accessories and wishing she would give them all to me... There's something so mysterious about a jewelry box when you're a little girl. And now that I'm a grown girl I still love those old pieces of something sweet. I have now become a market connoisseur, collecting little old-fashioned lockets and earrings, picking only the most special. And... then there's vintage dishes, antique furniture, painting, re-decorating, making old things new... (blog on that coming later)

Anyway, now I can share my treasures with anyone who'd like to have them! This store is mainly dedicated to jewelry and designer vintage finds... (there's more in the works)

Here are a few that I have for sale right now. To see the full collection visit my shop! (www.heirloomstore.etsy.com) And if you're local and interested in something, shoot me an email and we'll see what I can do. ;)

Enjoy!

These remind me of a royal English family.

and I almost don't want to sell this one... :)

I call these the Braveheart glasses because it has thistles on them!

Invite Me!

HAPPY LABOR DAY!

One thing I love in life is getting mail. These days so much junk gets thrown in the mailbox, I excite when there's a squarish envelope with my name written in fresh ink because I know potentially, "I have mail." So of course, I can appreciate a good invitation when one comes my way.

Here are a few real invitations that I have posted on my fridge. And sometimes when the invites are so cute, I keep them on there months after the event because I just don't want to get rid of them yet, or maybe I still want to feel important. ;)
The other cool thing about many of these is that they were handmade.

So, enjoy these invites and be inspired to write someone a letter today.

WEDDING INVITATIONS:

I love this organic paper with the bicycle...

She has her wedding styled from top to bottom, ( I know this because I'm shooting her wedding in a month) Hers' isn't just an invitation; it is a package, with maps, a save the date magnet, address card... You can check out more of her wedding on her blog...
{and of course she made these herself, ordered the paper and printed them from her computer... pretty amazing!}
